Ateneo University Press joins Aklatan 2020, the first all-Filipino online book fair
Date:
Sunday, August 16, 2020 - 8:00am to Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - 5:00pm

Ateneo University Press proudly joins Aklatan 2020, the first all-Filipino online book fair this August 16–18. The book fair is organized by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP) and, going full-digital this year, is partnering with local e-commerce platform Shopee. By sharing its platform, Shopee strongly supports our local book community and helps make book-buying as convenient as possible.

When we shop local, an entire community benefits. When we support locally published books, we make sure good Filipino writers continue to be published. Writers who document and tell stories of our nation and its people, and preserve this knowledge for future readers.

Together with other publishers and authors, Ateneo Press encourages all Filipino readers and book lovers to take part in Aklatan: discover and acquire new titles, join important conversations with great minds, and be active in our local reading community.

Read Local: Filipino Books for Filipinos

Because what we learn from books helps us better understand the community we live in, Ateneo Press is holding a series of conversations in the form of webinars on timely and relevant issues in our country today.

Urban Spaces: Isolation, Inequalities, and Expectations

What lies ahead for our cities? Will we be seeing sustainable cities when we recover from COVID-19, which has drastically changed the way we live in and experience them? A multidisciplinary panel of urban studies experts may help us unpack these questions. This talk features Remmon E. Barbaza (editor of Making Sense of the City: Public Spaces in the Philippines), Rebecca Tinio McKenna (author of American Imperial Pastoral: The Architecture of US Colonialism in the Philippines), Michael D. Pante (author of A Capital City at the Margins: Quezon City and Urbanization in the Twentieth-Century Philippines), and Gary C. Devilles (author of Sensing Manila), with Arnisson Andre C. Ortega (author of Neoliberalizing Spaces in the Philippines: Suburbanization, Transnational Migration, and Dispossession) as moderator.

Research and Teaching Research Remotely

How does one do research under today’s extraordinary circumstances? Jose Eos Trinidad, author of Researching Philippine Realities: A Guide to Qualitative, Quantitative, and Humanities Research and Error-Proofing Your Research: Common Mistakes and How to Address Them, talks about schools reopening and the adjustments that students and teachers can do in pursuing and teaching research through online classes, digital resources, and other practical applications.
